Like a Local
Often repeated travel advice is to “do what the locals do”. Stay in hotels in the right parts of town, look for restaurants and coffee shops known best to the locals, and track down events, activities and other hidden gems like a seasoned pro.
The locals in Lake George can let you in on a travel tip: Located just nine miles west of Lake George you can catch a 50-minute train ride for summer service between Thurman and North Creek beginning July 4th weekend through Sept. 7. The North End Local departs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Thurman twice daily at 10am and 1:30p.m. Catch spectacular views of the Adirondacks and take a charming stroll around the shops of North Creek during your layover, enjoying the local North Country flavors. Or for the more adventurous, try your hand at outdoor activities like fly fishing, rafting or hiking (get equipment from one of several local outfitters in town).
Coinciding with the North End Local train schedule, the Thurman Station Association will also offer their North End Local Showcases featuring local artisans, musicians, businesses, , farmers, authors, historians, and perhaps even a musician or two every Saturday July 1- Sept. 5, 2015 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
